THE
LORD’S SAMPLE PRAYER
Theme : Matt.6:9-13
Matt.6:9-13 --- “ After this manner therefore pray ye : Our
Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name”.
( 10 ) --- “ Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in
heaven”.
( 11 ) --- “ Give us
this day our daily bread”..
( 12 ) --- “ And
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtor’s”.
( 13 ) --- “ And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil : For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, for ever. Amen”.
This was only a sample
prayer to go by. The first three words “ After this manner”, means to pray like
this, or pray in this way. It does not mean to repeat, word for word. Also, the ending of this prayer is incomplete. Don’t worry, Jesus Christ had a reason for that, as I will show you, toward the end of this issue.
Verse nine is the
verse that starts this sample prayer, and starts by letting us know, to whom we
as born again christian’s ( not saved yet until we die ) are to pray to. We are to pray to God
The Father, as
he is THE SUPREME BEING ( ENTITY ). I Cor. 11:3 --- “ But I would have you to know, that the
head of every man is Christ ; and the head of the woman is the man : and the head of Christ is God”.
Because the world
needed a saviour as a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, John 3:16 became evident here, as Jesus
Christ is God’s only begotten Son. I
Tim.2:5-6 --- “ For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus” ; ( 6 ) --- “ Who
gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time”.
Therefore, we pray to God The Father, and we go through Jesus
Christ to reach God The
Father. That’s easy enough. Nowhere does God teach us in His word, that we are to pray to, or praise The
Holy Ghost.
Here is how we should
start our prayers : Dear Heavenly Father or Father. I or we come to you through, or in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son. Then talk to God, say what you have to tell God, being your prayer.
Ok, “ Hallowed be thy name” also in verse 9, is
letting God know, we reverence Him and His name to be holy, as we find confirmation in Psalm 111:9.
In verse 10, we
are acknowledging to God The Father, that He rules and reigns over
us, and His will, will be done on earth as it is in heaven, in our lives.
In verse 11, we
are simply asking God
The Father to supply us with, not only food
for our physical body, but spiritual food for our spirit and soul ( God’s word ) each day ( daily ), as this prayer is basicly morning prayer example.
In verse 12, where Jesus is talking about debts and debtor’s, Jesus is talking about debts being sins or wrong doings, and debtor’s being to whom the sins or wrong doings are
done to. Every time you do someone wrong, you sin against God. You
become a debtor ( indebted ) to that person and God. You then need to ask that person to forgive you of the wrong you did to them, and you also need to ask God to forgive you, as Luke 11:4 and Matt.6:14-15 tells us.
That’s why we
are to forgive others, when
they transgress ( commit a wrong ) against us. We are not forgiving them of the sins they have committed, as they committed the sins against God The Father, and they need to ask Him to forgive them, and not a priest ( a man ). We need to forgive others for the wrong they do to us. An important factor here. When we ask Jesus
Christ to forgive us of sins we commit, we are to name the sins, specifically. James 4:3 --- “ Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss
, that ye may consume it upon your lust”.
Verse 13 is
telling us, to ask God
The Father to help us
stay away from temptations (look on something else, think of things that are good, and not evil ). “ But deliver us from evil”, means, when the temptation becomes a stronghold, God will show us how to break the curse that came upon us through
the stronghold. This next verse will help to explain. Eccl. 10:8 --- “ He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it ; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him”.
When we sin ( diggeth a pit ), we break the hedge
of protection that God has put around us, and
our possessions, as Job
1:12 tell us, and a serpent ( devil or demon ) will bite ( curse ) us, and that is the evil, Jesus is talking about
being delivered from. When we ask God to forgive us, God makes the hedge strong again.
The last sentence in verse
13, is us being aware that God The Father is the ruler and reigns over us, with His power ( The
Holy Ghost ), and all glory will be His, for all that is done for ever. We also
know, the word amen means, so be it.
Now there is something missing from this prayer for us, both in Matt.6:9-13 and Luke
11:2-4. This prayer was for the disciples ( believers ), before Jesus Christ work on the cross was
completed. What is missing, will make this
prayer for us today, just as it did for the apostles and disciples in the bible, after Jesus Christ work on the cross was done. You will find your answer in Acts 3:6&12 and Acts 4:10, how to make this prayer for today. Your right, by speaking these next 6 words, “ In the name of Jesus
Christ”, is what makes all of
your prayers you pray today, have authority and power, for today.
Although we pray this way, Jesus
Christ did not mean
for us to pray this prayer over and over, as no prayer is to be said over and over. Even the prayer Jabez prayed, that we
find in I Chr.4:9-10, was not a prayer to be repeated over and over, but is
a sample for us to go by. When we are taking our authority over Satan and his devil’s, we use the same command each time, but never over and over, in the same incident, because that would result in, lack
of faith in Jesus
Christ. When prayers are spoken word for word, they no longer are prayers, but mantras and incantations ( curses ).
When people pray to idols, such as made of stone ( graven
images or statues ) or
jewelry, as Ex.20:4 and Acts 17:29-30 tell us, or to
people such as : dead apostles, Mary, the
mother of Jesus Christ ( also dead ), a pope, a priest for confession, Buddha, etc., they are only using things and people as mediators, while praying to Satan and his devil’s, and will die the second death. They
will be going to HELL for eternity, unless they accept Jesus
Christ as their Saviour, and repent to Jesus Christ for committing those sins, as we just learned in this issue, in Matt.6:12. By the
way, who started the heresy of calling this sample, The Lord’s Prayer ? The
bible doesn’t. That is how hermeneutics changes God’s word, to make God’s word mean, what man wants it to mean.
